Kwik Sew boxer shorts

Yes, yes, I know. I'm just now finishing up from the Male Pattern Boldness Men's Boxer Short Sew Along here and I'm seriously disappointed with mine.  My waistband is uneven (see top of picture - one side is nicely gathered but the other, *sigh*) but that isn't the worst of it.  Take a look:

The flaps veer out when they should be one on top of the other, correct?  In addition, there isn't anything on the instructions to finish the right bottom flap and I didn't realize it until it was too late to do anything about it.

Another problem is the bottom seam.  They are uneven!  The front is much narrower than the back.  So, how is it the manufacturer could make such a blunder??  (Heh, yes, I'm sure I cut the same size, front and back)

These have turned out so horrible that I will need to start all over.  I suppose I shouldn't be too disappointed because that means another trip to the fabric store to get more elastic.  But, I really liked this fabric, as did my husband, and I really don't know where I went wrong.

So, I picked out the elastic and will try again with another bit of fabric I had.  Wish me luck!

  1. This looks like one of my projects! LOL How frustrating! I thought the Kwik Sew patterns were supposed to be excellent, but it looks like this one fell a bit short.
I think maybe the under-fly facing (I don't know the right word for it) is supposed to be only turned under with a narrow hem rather than folded all the way over.
At least you have beautiful flat-felled seams!

  2. Heheh, thanks! In the sew along, it looks like Peter finished his fly before he did the crotch seam. Maybe that has something to do with my mistake. I did his jean sew along and I found that if I followed his directions, it came out correctly but it was awkward following the pattern. Oh well. I'll just start again and see what happens.

  5. An interesting dialogue is price comment. I feel that it is best to write more on this matter, it may not be a taboo topic however usually individuals are not enough to talk on such topics. To the next. Cheers.
